Monthly Favourite: November!

Hello lovelies! I can't believe November has already passed by me! Time flies!

So here are my favourite products that I have used a lot during November!

1. Carmex Moisture Plus. £3.49
My old lip balm (Carmex Cherry lip balm, tube packaging) ran out so I had to buy a new one since my lips will probably not be very happy! So I bought the new Carmex Moisture Plus since I just saw a magazine recommending it.

The lip balm came in a standard lipstick packaging, since I purchased the clear one, the lip balm just looked like normal vaseline. But when I applied it on, first thing I noticed was that it did not have the normal nasty Carmex taste, instead it had a more buttery, vanila-ish taste! The product was also very moisturising, perfect for application before lipstick! The slanted tip was also ver helpful in application. Overall, a very happy customer.

2. Maybelline Pure Mineral Concealer

Ah, this is an all time favourite of mine. I love this concealer as it suits my skin tone perfectly and lasts a very long time. This has a quite good coverage as well, the applicator was also quite smart as it is good at locating blemishes. However the only thing I did not like was the packaging, not that it did not look good or anything, the product sometimes leak, leading to a major concealer leakage in my make up bag.

3. Rimmel Natural Bronzer Powder, £5.59
I have to be honest, I have been looking for a bronzer for ages. Since the 3 for 2 offer at Superdrug, I decided to give this product a go. All I can say is that this is indeed, very natural, great for contouring cheekbones, this can even be used as a blush! The pigmentation is not very heavy meaning that the colour can be built up to your liking. Again, the packaging is a problem for me... it is not very secure as there is just a plastic lid over it... surely there should be something to secure that plastic lid...?

4. Kate Lasting Finish Lipstick by Rimmel, £5.49
I have wanted to try this lipstick out for ages since when I tested it out I found that it was quite pigmented. I purchased shade 3(warm nude)  and 8(dark purple). I am cool with the nude colour, great coverage, true to colour, great. But I have really fallen in love with the darker shade as it creates a beautiful dark red colour on your lips when a thin coat has been applied! Only problem was that it was not as long lasting as it stated and I had to reapply it after a few hours.

That is pretty much all of the products. Anything you would like me to review? Post a comment to let me know!

Stay tuned for more!

Fashion Diary: Versace scarf arrives, Manchester Loves Fashion night, Christmas Market!

Hello lovelies!

There are a few things happening recently in the fashion side of things.

The Versace for H&M scarf I ordered has arrived! I was so excited as I have been eyeing up some items from the collection and I was lucky enough to grab this one before it went out of stock! (again!)
The print was lovely and the texture of the scarf is lovely too as it is 100% silk! money well spent? Yes. I can not wait to put it on!

The next event would be the Manchester Loves Fashion night at the Triangle. It was a mild disappointment since I was expecting more stalls rather than the sparse amount of them. Some of the items were unnecessarily expensive.... by that I meant a bracelet for £54! I'm sure the quality is lovely but really, I can get the equivalent at a fraction of the price.

Having said that, the fashion show was good. Despite not being able to purchase anything worn on there... ( I eyed up a leather jacket.... only to find out that it was £250... at a discount of £350...) Pretty much summed it up. Really, I wouldn't go again... especially with the presence of women wearing trainers around a fashion show... No, no.

The next thing would be the Christmas Market! It was great and I had some pancakes which were YUM! Also grabbed a pair of ear muffs, they are adorable:
These fit my ears perfectly and they were so warm! I will definitely be wearing these a LOT! I have all the winter essentials I will need to make it through this winter!

What Have you done that was exciting recently? I would love to read them!

Special Article: How to apply make up to hidden double eyelids.

As a girl who has hidden double eyelids, or in other words, a very small crease on my eye. I really dislike the way that my make up disappears after I have applied it. However, this can be helped.

My tip for this problem would be that if you want your eye make up to show up, open your eyes and then use a brown eyeshadow on a flat eyeshadow brush, mark the position of your eye liner( or eyeshadow) on there, the next you do will be filling in the space between your lash line and the line you have marked! This has helped me greatly as now I look like I have make up on instead of the old method where my eyeliner does not show up.

Do you have any tips? Please leave any of your tips down below!

Product Review: MaxFactor Smokey Eye Effect Eyeshadow in Bronze Haze

Hello lovelies!

Today the product up for a review is the MaxFactor Smokey Eye Effect Eyeshadow in the shade Bronze Haze. I have heard that this product is great with Youtube make-up gurus singing its praises, so I have tried it out!
After trying this product out, I have noticed that the textures of both ends were extremely creamy, making it easy to be blended out on your lids. The pigmentation is great too as the lighter end can be used as a nude shimmer shade. However the major problem for me was that the formula was SO creamy that even with eyeshadow primer on, both shades creased and smudged, No matter how much powder eyeshadow I put on top of it, it STILL smudged, and since the darker end was supposed to be a liner/contour shade, the bronze disappeared quickly since it... smudged.

For this product, I can only say that it might work better for people with perfect double eyelid/crease, since it really did smudge quite quickly with primer. If this product had better staying power I would have kept on using it... but for now, it will stay at the bottom of my make up drawer...

Please comment to tell me what you think of this product, if you had the same problem with it or not. I would love to hear your opinions!

Health Diary: Dieting

A lot of girls worry about their figure these days and will go on crazy diets to lose weight. However to me, it is all about healthy eating, and it can be surprisingly easy.

I have read all sorts about the no carbs diet, and yes, for a while I considered doing it. However, one of my housemates has tried the diet and gave me the feedback that as soon as you stop the diet the weight will pile on, and no carbs means saying no to A LOT of food, such as noodles, pasta, bread, rice and other foods, and some of them contains a healthy amount of carbohydrates, and for your body, the right amount of carbohydrate can be very good for your body. (as long as you don't eat too much of them.)

For me its all about loads of vegetables, healthy whole grain food, meat with low fat content (fish is good, but chicken will be fine too if you are not fond of fish.) and fruit. It is good for your body to eat a small amount of dairy, even if you are lactose intolerant (it is good for people with lactose intolerance to eat a small amount of dairy). I know it is easy for a student to buy microwave meals as it can sound like a huge effort to try and cook, but trust me, I found the fun in cooking and keeps inventing new combinations! You will get the food and the fun without all the additives the microwave meals contain.

One major thing to cut out is chocolate, yes, it sounds hard but they are very unhealthy for your body since they contain a very high amount of calories. Also cutting out coffee helps, I know it is tempting to get that cup of coffee in the morning, but I will not get it unless I am struggling to keep myself awake!

The last tip I can give you will be to keep a healthy lifestyle, there are many exercises you can do at home to keep yourself toned and healthy. Also having a regular sleeping pattern helps and fat forms when you sleep.

Please share your tips for a healthy life style! I would love to hear more tips!

Beauty tips: Keeping barcode fringe at bay!

I'm sure everyone would love to keep their hair away from looking greasy, but that's not the case some times, since your fringe can turn greasy so easily without you realising! And since pictures of greasy fringe will not be very flattering, I am not going to add any photos of it to this post!

I will share what I do to keep greasy fringe at bay, and it is surprisingly easy as you will only need one product... and that is Dry shampoo!
It has been an everyday procedure for me to spray the side of my fringe that touches my forehead with dry shampoo. How it works it that the dry shampoo will act as a barrier between the grease from your forehead and your fringe, therefore making it less likely to be greasy!

If you don't have any dry shampoo and are not able to get any, you can dust a small amount of compact powder onto your fringe and it will do the same trick!

Don't hesitate to comment and let me know your methods of keeping greasy fringe away!

Stay tuned!

Product Review: Barry M Nail Effects Gold Glitter Crackle Nail Polish

A few days ago I posted a post about the 3 for 2 offer at superdrug. I have taken full advantage of it and bought this nail varnish as part of the offer. I bought it because I was attracted to it gorgeous gold colour and funnily I did not even notice it was a crackle effect nail polish, when I came to realise it I was so excited about trying it.

Because I was not aware of the fact that it was crackle effect, I did not really have any other base colour to go with it, so I have applied one layer over a layer of base coat and this is the result:
I really liked the effect of this on my nails. But you have to put a topcoat over it since without it, you will look like you have really dry, cracked nails, and that is NOT a good look! I was absolutely fascinated by the process where it cracks because it looked amazing! However the design of the brush meant that you can easily over apply this, and when you apply too much, the crackle effect gets more dramatic. (more cracked looking nails.) I prefer the smaller cracks much more than the big cracks. The colour pigmentation was great, much more intense than normal Barry M nail polishes and it has a beautiful gold shimmer. I would definitely be wearing this over red nail polish for Christmas!

Beauty Tips: How to combat spots?

I'm sure I am not the only one with this issue. I get spots and they are really hard to get rid of. So I have tried a huge number of methods to get rid of them quicker. Here are my feedbacks from all the methods I have tried.

1. Squeeze it! (ew.)
Yes, I know this sounds absolutely disgusting, but at one point of my life I seriously thought it was the quickest way to get rid of spots. Well, squeezing them did get rid of the ugly white bit, but I was left with some spot scars that required covering up and it was there for ages! I have now learnt my lesson and will NEVER squeeze my spots again.

2. Antiseptic Cream

After reading the packaging and realising that it can be applied to spots, I jumped to apply this on any existing spot before bed. Have to say this definitely worked better than squeezing the spot on drying the spot out, but you will have to apply this persistently on your existing/developing spot everyday and it will take a while to full get rid of the spot. It is good if you don't want your spot leaving scars behind, but it will take a while.

3. Toothpaste!

I have read on Michelle Phan's blog that toothpaste is a good thing to stop spots from emerging. So I decided to try this at home since it is an inexpensive way to get rid of them. I have dabbed a bit of toothpaste (enough to cover the spot) on my developing spot before going to bed and the next morning when I woke up, the spot looks visibly smaller and on the second day it was gone! This is a great method as it is cheap and gets rid of spots really quickly and efficiently. However, the time needed to get rid of the spot depends on the size of the spot, the bigger the spot, the longer it will take to get rid of it. But I am relying on this method now!

So above are methods I have used to get rid of them, but another important step will be to prevent them. I would suggest removing your make up COMPLETELY before going to bed. Wearing make up to bed will cause the make up to clog up your pores and cause a spot to develop! It does not matter how tired you are or how late it was, make up NEED to come off before bed.

It is also important to have clean bed sheets, since bacteria can build up on dirty bed sheets, pillow cases and other fabrics, so I recommend clean them regularly, but not so regularly that you run out of bed sheets! Also invest in a good skin cleanser and wash, since they also help to clear up your pores. Basic rule: Clear Pores=Clear skin!

So there are most of my tips to a clear skin. If you have any other questions, don't hesitate to contact me and I will try my best to answer all your questions!

Beauty Diary: Superdrug offer!

Thought I would pop into Superdrug near my place for some nail varnish. When I got to the till it turned out the great offer of 3 for 2 across ALL cosmetics are on again! Christmas has hit the drug stores early!

This is a great opportunity to buy anything new you would want to try. Or if you really wanted to save money, you WILL save tons on the Make Up Academy line available in most Superdrugs! The majority of their products are £1, and for something so cheap their quality is not bad! I would highly recommend this line to anyone on a budget. There are no other worries as they do not test their cosmetics on animals, so you can use these products guilt free!

I would highly recommend you to take advantage of this offer!

Monthly Favourites: October

Hey guys, this is going to be an article concluding my favourite of the month!
I know it is a bit late, but I will put the next one up in time (hopefully)

So here goes my favourite products!

1. L'Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in Flashback SIlver. £6.99

This is my favourite as it is a very long lasting eyeshadow. I have always had problems with eyeshadow creasing and with this I found that I can wear this without eyeshadow primer! Making this the perfect product for lazy days. Plus the colour is very eye-brightening, so it reduces the redness of my eyes too! Happy days!

2. Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner. £7.99

Eyeliner is one of my make up staple piece, it helps to make my eyes look less tired and alters my eye shape. However, pencil liners always smudged everywhere and liquid eyeliners requires a very steady hand, which I don't have, therefore gel liner was the last option left!

This gel liner has a nice texture, quite smooth and for a drug store brand it really isn't that bad. However I found that if i apply too much of this it will smudge and transfer above my crease, therefore I recommend applying this in small amounts and then layering it up. Overall it is a good product.

3. Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Scrub. £4.59 for 150 ml

I have always loved the visibly clear oil free moisturiser. Since my last scrub ran out, I have opted to try the one by Neutrogena, and I can only say that my skin is visibly clearer than it was. I have rarely had breakouts and this works perfectly with the Visibly Clear Moisturiser.

So above are pretty much everything I have tried out this month, I know it's not a lot but I am on a budget, However I have a new list to try next month, so do expect some reviews and another Favourites article!

Special Article: Asian Double Eyelids.

Being Asian and born with not so perfect eyelids, from a young age I have wanted double eyelids since that was the definition of pretty in my cultures. As I grew up, I was exposed to different methods of achieving the double eyelid look without surgery, having tried the methods that were the most common, here are my thoughts about it.

1. Double eyelids glue/ eyelash glue:

After doing my research about this particular method, I found out that lash glue is essentially the same with the double eyelid glue available in Asia. Making this the easiest method for me.

After using a hair pin to identify the possible position of my "crease" I have applied eyelash glue to the line and waited for it to become tacky, and after that I will poke the line with the hair pin used previously. This method did create a double eyelid, but it was... not very natural looking, since the crease is glued up, it looked shiny due to the glue and when I blinked... it hurts. So if I don't use a big amount of make up to cover the line, it will be very obvious that you have a fake crease.

2. Double eyelid clippers:

Okay, I bought these clippers from eBay due to an episode of uneven eyelids that occured during summer and I have to say... it takes longer than the instructed 5 minutes for you to get the right crease.

For me these are surprisingly not painful. But the clippers annoyed me a bit since they will only have the best result if you put them on closed eyes and for me, it took 30 minutes with closed eyes to achieve a long lasting result, after a while, the rubber bit on one of the clippers fell off too! These produced a much more natural looking crease, but is very time consuming. I normally do it half an hour before I was due to wake up for the day and then sleep for 30 minutes and take them off when I wake up.

Those are the only 2 methods I have tried, I have seen people with the tape on and its not very natural looking either. My conclusion was to accept my eyes since I was born with them and I have realised that without the crease they don't look that bad anyway and I can still play around with make up to alter my eye shape. So for me, the best way is to accept the features I was born with and enjoy it.

Product Review: Frizz Ease Thermo Protection

So recently I have been told by friends that my hair is really puffy. That's why I finally decided to purchase this product, to tame my... er... very tangled hair.

I use this product before blowdrying on towel dried hair as instructed on the packaging of this product. First thing I noticed is that this formula is quite oily, which is within my expectations as it is supposed to smooth out my hair. However, I don't feel like this product spreads well enough in my hair, but that might be because I was applying it to wet hair.

It did tame my hair, did exactly what it said on the bottle, I was left with smooth, silky hair after blow drying. Due to the oily feeling formula, I did not think it would be appropriate to be used on dry hair, well I was wrong as it was very light on long hair and did not make it appear oily at all!

In conclusion, this product did what it says on the box. I like it, but it is a bit pricey for a student like me, plus due to the feeling it did not spread very well, I have been using more of it as well, so for me, this will be a little treat to myself.

Budget Solution: Lip Scrub.

I know in the last article I have reviewed the lip scrub. So what can you do if you don't want to spend approximately £5 on it? Well it is actually surprisingly easy to make.

You will need some sugar, the more coarse the grains of sugar are, the better. So don't use icing sugar as it will not have a big effect!
The next ingredient will be petroleum jelly. For this I recommend the ones packaged in a tube (e.g.Carmex), since they are easier to get out into a container than the ones packaged in pots.

You will need a small container to store you lip scrub! A good example will be a contact lenses case. Or if you don't intend to store it and want to use it for one use only, a small saucer will do the job nicely.

Sqeeze a pea sized amount of petroleum jelly into the container, and then add about half a tea spoon of sugar, stir well with a toothpick, or the end of a brush (make sure it's clean!). Make sure the mixture has a grainy texture, if it hasn't been achieved from the quantities given above, add more sugar till desired texture is achieved. Voila, you have your homemade lip scrub!

Product Review: Lush Bubblegum Lip Scrub

Recently I have visited the Lush store in Manchester to purchase this product. For me dry lips have always been a problem as it can look extremely bad when I put lip colour on, and the toothbrush method does not work for me as it made my lips bleed. :(

The first thing I have noticed about this product is that it smells really good, it has that sweet, fresh scent of bubblegum! After rubbing it into my lips (gently, as your lips are very delicate!) I have noticed that it did buff away some of the dry skin on my lips, and because it is made from natural ingredients, it is good to eat too!

However, it did not make my lips completely smooth, this might be due to the fact that I did not use enough quantities of the product.

But overall, I definitely like this product! Plus point for its lovely smell(and taste.) and for a price tag of £4.95, it is definitely worth it!
