hello guys!
I have been looking for a pair of high waisted denim shorts for what seemed like forever, but I didn't find any in the shops that's the sort of shorts I wanted, or they were just down right pricey. After looking up a few videos on youtube I had the crazy idea to make my own pair.
So I took out all the old jeans I used to own and don't wear anymore, and I ended up trying this pair:
As you can see the jeans are high waisted and does not fit well around the legs. I decided these will be perfect to be changed up into a pair of shorts.
So first I have marked on the jeans the line at which I will cut them for the first time. It will be better to cut it longer at first since if it is too short there will be no going back! So I marked the line out with a white eyeliner pencil:
my lines were a bit messy as I didn't use a ruler at first.... then the ruler came in and made the measurements a lot easier! After I was sure about the measurements and the marks I have drawn on it, the jeans were cut at the line marked.
On the left were the jeans after the first cut, I have then tried the jeans on and then marked out the second line I am going to cut as it is too long at the moment and I will need to add the curves into the shorts too.
So I have cut the jeans another time, now the front is shorter with a tiny curve added on the side, I have also trimmed the back so it is a bit shorter than it was before. Note that every time the jeans were trimmed, try it on afterwards to see how it fits, so you will have an idea as in how to cut it so it suits your shape!
After I made sure the cuts were right, I started tearing up the fabric at where I cut the jeans so the trimmed sides didn't look so obvious. I ripped my jeans with a pair of tweezers.
by tearing out some fabric, it had this torn up effect. By doing this, a lot of white threads also came out, it doesn't have to be dealt with now. After I finished tearing up the sides, I proceeded to remove the white threads that were exposed by tearing them out, but don't do it too harshly, if it doesn't come out of the fabric by it self, snip it with a pair of scissors.
I got a bit lazy during the process and didn't take as many pictures as I should have, and here is the finished product:
Sorry about the bad lighting, by the time I properly finished with these it was already night time. I have not yet had pictures of me wearing it, but it should be taken soon!
Again remember always try the jeans/shorts on after trimming it, or any alterations, just so you know how it fits.
Have fun making your own shorts!
